What are you asking?

I heard recently that the average 4 year old asks an average of 430 questions a day! I almost didn't believe this at first until I started to pay attention to it a little bit more than normal. While I didn't spend anytime counting along with a 4 year old all the way up to 430, I have noticed that children indeed ask a lot of questions throughout the course of a day. If you take a minute to look at it or really listen I bet you'll find the same thing I found. It's amazing to me that even in the course of a 5 minute span, a child could just ask the question "why?" up to ten times! I wonder if in their subconscious mind they expect to have all of these questions answered, or if they don't even realize that they ask so many questions. Nevertheless, the curious and uncertain mind of a child asks questions to people around them because they feel the need to have answers.

It left me thinking about the way we are before God. I wonder in the course of a day how many questions, whether we say them out loud or think them in our hearts, we ask the Lord. Could you imagine asking the Lord over 400 questions a day? Stop and think for a sec just about the millions and millions of people on the face of this earth that cry out to him daily. And if all those people asked that many questions, one would think God would be so busy there would be no way he could return your phone calls. But, God is not that way. When I think about my life and all the uncertainties that I have I wonder if Gods even hears all the questions that I voice in my heart. But he does! I know my own anxieties and areas in my walk where I fail to trust God, but in Matthew's gospel, Jesus said something very powerful. Matthew 6:25 "Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?"

Jesus was basically saying, I know you have questions about your life and about things, but if I take care of the birds of the air and know their needs then how much more would I take care of you? Jesus taught us not to worry about tomorrow and what will happen because today has enough for us to worry about. Despite what questions you may be asking yourself today, my challenge for you is to let go. I'm not saying don't pray and don't ask God questions that are on your heart, but I'm challenging you to consider what your asking for. If your worried about your future and if God will provide, just know that He will and that His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts towards us are greater than what we could ever imagine. What are you asking today?
